On another Forum of which I am a member, the following post was made. Not being an American, I am afraid I don't understand what it is all about, but it has caused great controversy.
Can anyone from 'The South' or 'Texas' throw any light on this please? "How do you feel about Texas leaving the Union? Personally Im ecstatic! And spiritually Im praising God in song and psalms because my dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus this is prophesy! The South will rise again! And hopefully to a more reason centered conservative Confederate State! No not for slavery but for FREEDOM this time. Freedom from tyranny, Freedom from liberals who are raping our country and then telling us we have to be quiet and accept it in the name of tolerance! Praise God. NO MORE. Truelly FREE AT LAST , FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD WERE FREE AT LAST! With Gods help will be the new cry of the South!" David |

Well now! Seven months since this post and Texas is still much with us. And that's great, right Bonnie? The Civil War is over. Put it to rest, whoever made the quoted statement. We are no longer engaged in regional conflict. And I was always told the Civil War settled the question of whether secession was a state's right. It isn't. Witness that none have attempted it since. It might well be seen as a treasonous act. Joining the United States, a state is like salt being put in soup. Once in - no way it comes out.
Liberals vs. conservatives conflicts are plentiful throughout the land. They are "fought out" all sorts of political ways, and neither side is confined to a specific geographical region. But the quoted statement is quite full of unsupported inaccuracy. |
